Kenwood is a hard course — and with a real-feel temperature of 106 degrees, it was brutal out there. I played a practice round earlier in the week with Bani and Rahi, and I'm glad I did — knowing where you can miss on a course like that matters, especially when the heat is draining you.

Day one I shot 77. I kept it together in the heat but couldn't get much going on the greens. It was one of those grind-it-out rounds where you're just trying to stay hydrated and make smart decisions.

Day two I found something. Shot 75 with five birdies — the putts were finally falling and I felt like I was seeing lines better. Finished tied for second with my friend Bani, which made it even better. Competing alongside someone you practice with and both ending up on the podium — that's a good day.

I learned a lot both days. Mostly that when I trust the shot I'm about to hit, good things happen. When I don't, they don't. And that drinking water every single hole is not optional when it's 106.
